Earl and Geordie Farrell to be Inducted into Athletics Ontario Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Saugeen Track & Field Club founders Earl and Geordie Farrell who will be inducted into the Athletics Ontario Hall of Fame on September 29th in Toronto.

Earl and Geordie have been involved with the Saugeen Track & Field Club, based in Port Elgin, since its formation in 1983. Having no indoor facilities and only a dirt track in the beginning, they have helped Saugeen establish itself as one of the top clubs in the province. Earl was the Head Coach of the 1996 World Junior Championships team and served as president of the Ontario Track & Field Association (OTFA) from 1967-2002. Geordie has coached many of the Saugeen Cross Country teams to National Championships and was a national coach on the 2000, 2003 and 2004 World Cross Country Championship Teams. She also served as manager and distances coach of the 2001 World Youth Junior Championships Team and as a coach for the 2003 Junior Pan American Championships Team.

In 2008, Earl & Geordie were honoured at the Ontario Sports Award banquet by being presented with the Syl Apps Award for Achievement in the sport of Athletics

Quanz and Bryce Named to Team Ontario

Congratulations to Samara Quanz and Emily Bryce who have been selected to compete for Team Ontario Youth Girls (U18) team at the Canadian Cross Country Championships in Kingston on Saturday November 24th.

Saugeen TFC will also be fielding a Youth Girls and Youth Boys team at the championships.  Good luck to all!

Youth Girls and Bantam Girls have Podium Finishes at AO XC Championships

Saugeen TFC's youth girls (Samara Quanz, Naomi Herman, Anna Carruthers and Ana Morariu) won the U18 team title at the Athletics Ontario Provincial cross country championships in King City on November 11th. 

Saugeen TFC's bantam girls (Claire Rands, Brooklyn Quanz, Grace Boyce, Grace Wheeler and Olivea Pope) were second in the U14 division.

Bryce Wins Gold at OFSAA Cross Country Championships

Emily Bryce won junior girls gold at the OFSAA Cross Country running championships on November 4th in Hamilton.

Provincial Titles and 31 Medal Performance at Provincial Bantam, Midget and Junior Championships

Saugeen Track and Field Club won both the Bantam and Youth Championships at the Athletics Ontario Bantam-Midget-Youth Track and Field Championships in Windsor on July 21 and 22.  The Club was 5th in the Midget Division.

Saugeen TFC athletes won 31 medals at the Championships, 10 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze. Highlight performances included Billie Martin's Gold in the Youth Girls Hammer Throw. Billie's performance of 55.25m established a new Athletics Ontario Record for both U17 and U18 age classifications.  Michelle Van Stuyvenberg, a Bantam athlete competing as a Midget, set a Meet Record for U15 Girls Hammer Throw with a mark of 44.23m. She was cms off the provincial record.

Ryan Jacklin led the medal barrage with Gold performances in the U18 Javelin, Discus and Hammer and a Bronze in Shot Put.

13 Medal Performance at Legion Provincial Championships in St. Catherines

Saugeen TFC athletes brought home 13 medals from the Royal Canadian Legion Midget and Youth Championships in St. Catherines on July 13 and 14.  This medal haul included 6 gold medals.

Following this meet, Ryan Jacklin (throws), Ben Brewer (throws) and Emily Bryce (distance) were selected to compete and represent Team Ontario at the Legion National Youth Championships In Brandon Manitoba on August 10 - 12.

Three Medal Performance at Provincial Junior & Senior Championships

Saugeen TFC athletes brought home 3 medals from the Provincial Junior & Senior outdoor championships in Toronto.  Congratulations to the following:

8 Medal Performance for Saugeen TFC Athletes at OFSAA Track and Field Championships

Congratulations on the excellent performances by all of the Saugeen TFC athletes competing for their respective high schools at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships in Toronto on June 7-9.  The group was led by a three gold medal performance by Ryan Jacklin.

11 Athletes Qualify for OFSAA Track and Field Championships

Congratulations to the 11 Saugeen TFC athletes who qualified for the OFSAA track and field championships in Toronto from June 7-9.  These athletes finished in the top 4 of their respective events at the OFSAA West Regional in Windsor on June 1 and 2. Good luck to all.

Saugeen TFC Athletes Win Three Medals at Canadian Indoor Track and Field Championships

Saugeen Track and Field Club athletes won 3 medals at the Canadian Indoor Track and Field Championships in Montreal on February 10th and 11th.

Three Athletes Selected for Team Ontario for Quebec/Ontario Dual Meet

Congratulations to Emily Bryce (2000m, 800m), Benjamin Brewer (shot put, weight throw) and Harley Martin (shot put, weight throw) who were selected to compete for Team Ontario at the Ontario versus Quebec midget aged dual meet in Toronto on February 17th.  All three competed incredibly well with special kudos to Emily Bryce and Benjamin Brewer who won the 2000m and shot put, respectively.
